Sr (Strontium/ Atomic number = 38, Atomic weight
= 87.62, one of Alkaline earth metal belonged in
#2 family) was first found by separating the element
from Strontianite discovered in Scottish mine field
¡®Strontia¡¯ by H. Davy English chemist in 1808. It
is naturally mined as SrSO4 and Strontianite (SrCO3)
form. Minor amount of it can be found in Alkaline
earth metals. Only small amount can be found in
comparison with its family element ¡°Calcium¡± and
the mineral is also hard to find.
Special
features
* Molecular weight: 147.63
* Powder or granule form of SrCO3 is not soluble
in water but in acid very easily. By heating with
temperature, it is separated into Carbonic acid
gas and Strontium oxide
* Usage: ¤ýDisplay glass (CRT, LCD, PDP), Special
purposed glass for industry, Optic industry ¤ýFerrite
(Electro magnetic, Magnetic recording tape) ¤ýMaterial
for special electronic glass products and ceramic
products ¤ýInsulator, enamels for various ceramic
wares
